The Basel-based pharmaceutical company Novartis continues to expand its research and manufacturing capacities in the United States through its U.S. subsidiary, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, headquartered in East Hanover, New Jersey. According to the company’s statement, the strategy also includes the construction of a seventh manufacturing facility in Morrisville, North Carolina. The plant will focus on the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for solid dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, and RNA therapeutics.
With the construction of the 5,200-square-meter facility, Novartis will expand its presence in North Carolina to a total of five sites across three cities. Overall, Novartis plans to invest USD 23 billion in its research and manufacturing activities in the United States.
“Last year, we committed to building seven new facilities in the U.S., and today we are finalizing our plans to expand our manufacturing and R&D footprint in the United States,” said Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan in a statement. “By building a connected and end-to-end ecosystem, we are strengthening our ability to locally develop, manufacture, and deliver medicines at scale, enabling faster access to innovative treatments for patients in the U.S.,” he added.
